Working conditions and corporate culture
We do everything we can to ensure that employees feel happy at Helsana – and ultimately stay with us. This is why we promote our corporate culture and offer a modern and healthy working environment as well as a competitive remuneration system that includes fringe benefits.
- We promote collaboration with a culture in which everyone is on first name terms, with flat hierarchies, transparency, proximity and trust.
- We ensure flexibility and promote creative working with an activity-focused interior design in our offices and with our principles on working from home. Employees can spend up to 60% of their working hours working from home.
- We advertise all positions as 80% to 100% positions. Existing employees can use the “Trial part-time” system to reduce their hours on a trial basis.
Maintaining and strengthening our employer brand
The number of new hires in relation to the total number of employees has remained constant over the last few years. Staff turnover in the 2023 reporting year saw 417 employees leave the company, matching the number of new employees hired. We are using our strong and attractive employer brand to prepare for the shortage of skilled labour and the implications of demographic change, including as follows:
- We are strengthening our employer brand using corresponding posts on social media, such as by using our corporate culture page on one of the largest professional networks.
- We have introduced a transparent salary system and attractive fringe benefits.
- We also took the reporting year as an opportunity to further simplify the recruitment process, by replacing the letter of motivation with motivational questions, for example, and creating a sense of proximity to and a personal insight into the future team by featuring new team videos.
- We offer opportunities for social engagement through our corporate volunteering programmes and support volunteer assignments of up to eight hours per year.
We are collaborating on our corporate culture
The employee survey provides us with an overall picture of the current work situation within the company. The survey provides key impetus regarding the strengths we need to develop in a targeted manner and which areas we need to work on. Our employees’ commitment was high when measured at the beginning of 2023, at 70 out of 100 points, but is below the average for the last few years. Employees are also generally satisfied with their work situation, scoring 72 out of 100 points. This shows that our employees identify with and feel committed to Helsana, but that there is still room for improvement. Based on the latest employee surveys, we have taken numerous measures to strengthen our communication and management culture, as well as cross-divisional collaboration.
- In the spring of 2023, we launched the company-wide “Committed to Helsana” (Engagiert für Helsana) initiative and held six large-scale face-to-face group events across Switzerland involving a total of 750 employees and three online sessions with 1,000 employees at all levels. As well as looking at communication and leadership, we used keynote speeches and interactive workshops to shed light on how we can further enhance our collaboration and culture and what the success factors are for a bright future at Helsana. “Committed to Helsana” will continue in 2024 and aims to further improve collaboration, communication and leadership.
- We hold regular CEO dialogue sessions and events with the Executive Board, giving employees the opportunity to raise their concerns with top management.
- Employees can get involved in the newly established employee panel and develop measures together.
