Innovation and partnerships

Technological progress and digital transformation are leading to constant improvements in healthcare provision – but new forms of collaboration also offer potential for the sustainable development of our healthcare system. This is why we invest in innovations and partnerships that offer solutions to improve healthcare quality and affordability.

  • At the beginning of 2022, Helsana founded the Compassana healthcare network together with Medbase, Hirslanden and the health insurers Groupe Mutuel and SWICA. The centrepiece of Compassana is a digital portal that will enable the straightforward coordination of outpatient, inpatient and digital healthcare services. By gaining access to personal health and treatment information, customers are empowered to take on greater personal responsibility. Integrated care is also being promoted. This means that the various specialists who contribute to a successful course of treatment are better networked with each other and patients are less likely to have to undergo the same examinations twice for no reason, for example. They also benefit from closely coordinated and, as a result, more effective treatment. Digital tools play a key role in facilitating this close coordination. In 2023, Compassana attracted an experienced digital user in the form of the LUKS Group, a leading hospital group in Switzerland. The very first version of the Compassana customer app was launched in June of the reporting year: the current version includes secure data storage for patients, secure data exchange between service providers and patients, a service provider search function and the option to book appointments.
  • Our subsidiary Helsana Health Invest (HIAG) has been investing in start-ups and venture funds, primarily in the digital health sector, in Switzerland and across Europe since 2021. HIAG invests in solutions that improve the quality and efficiency of patient care. In the reporting year, for example, HIAG invested in the company “Entyre” that addresses key challenges in the growing domestic care market. Helsana is supporting “Entyre” as it seeks to make real improvements to the quality of domestic care as Switzerland’s largest Spitex-related association for family caregivers. HIAG is also committed to the health of employees within companies through its investment in “Humanoo”, the corporate health & well-being platform. “Humanoo” has since established itself as one of the leading providers of digitally supported corporate health solutions in Europe.
  • The “myHelsana” customer portal gives our customers easy access to their personal data, which they can manage themselves at any time. They can also find documents such as insurance policies, premium invoices or benefit data in the portal whenever they need them. Since the end of 2023, our customers have also been able to access a list of all the medication they have submitted to Helsana for reimbursement over the last 180 days or over the entire duration of their contract to date in “myHelsana”. This overview can be shared as a PDF with doctors and pharmacists. By the end of December 2023, more than 50% of our private customers had signed up to “myHelsana”.
  • Our PRIMEO supplementary insurance product also gives customers exclusive access to innovative examinations. These currently include genetic tests such as Cypass that analyses metabolic processes to test how certain medication is broken down and tolerated. PRIMEO allows these methods to be used before they can be reimbursed under basic insurance.
